The Struggle to Find Alignment
There was a time in my life when I felt completely out of sync with my purpose. It wasn’t that I didn’t know what I was doing—it just didn’t feel right. It was as if I was living on autopilot, and I couldn’t figure out why. It all came to a head one fateful day when I said, overwhelmed by the thought of the day ahead, “I would rather die than go to work today.” This moment marked a turning point. Not only did I quit my job, but I also ended a relationship that suggested I should just “buckle up.”
I realize not everyone has the luxury of quitting a job, especially when life demands a steady income, but in that moment, I felt an overwhelming weight. The energy it took to maintain that job was draining, and it felt soul-sucking. It wasn’t that the job was bad—it just wasn’t meant for me. That was the moment I started pivoting to re-aligning my life.
Understanding Human Design: Your Unique Blueprint
To truly understand why that moment was so pivotal for me, I had to understand what was really going on inside. Although by that time I had knowledge of some of the workings of the Universe, this is not what I thought my career was suppose to feel like. That’s where Human Design came in. Human Design is a system that combines astrology, the I Ching, Kabbalah, and quantum physics to help you understand your behavior, life purpose, and unique design.
You input your birth data—date, time, and place—just like astrology, and you receive a detailed chart that shows your personality traits, strengths, and challenges. This chart is made up of Channels and Gates, which indicate specific qualities that shape your life’s path.
In my own chart, I found several key areas that helped me connect the dots. For instance, my Sacral Authority means I’m designed to make decisions based on gut feelings—clear “Yes” or “No” responses. This was the guiding principle that helped me realize the soul-sucking job wasn’t for me, even though it looked perfect on paper.
The Four Types: Knowing Your Strategy for Life
One of the core principles of Human Design is the concept of Type. There are four main Types, each with its own unique strategy for interacting with the world. I’m a Generator, which means I am meant to respond to the world around me rather than initiate action. When I am doing work I love, I create sustainable energy and feel aligned with my true purpose.
Here’s a quick overview of the four Types:
Manifestors: These are the initiators, the people who are here to make things happen and create change.
Generators and Manifesting Generators: Builders who respond to life and create sustainable energy when doing work they love.
Projectors: Guides who are here to offer wisdom and help others navigate life, but they need to be invited or recognized to share their insights.
Reflectors: These people are mirrors, deeply influenced by their environment and are here to reflect the health and energy of the world around them.
Understanding your Type is crucial because it helps you see how you are meant to engage with life. It informs your approach to making decisions, handling challenges, and even how you build your career or business.
Strategy & Authority: How to Make Aligned Decisions
After understanding your Type, you move to the Strategy and Authority, which are tools to help you make decisions that align with your design.
Manifestors: “Inform before you act”
Generators: “Wait to respond”
Projectors: “Wait for the invitation”
Reflectors: “Wait a lunar cycle” (about 28 days)
For me, as a Generator, my strategy is to “wait to respond.” This means that I don’t need to initiate action; instead, I wait for the universe or life to present something to me that I can respond to. This is in contrast to a Manifestor, who is meant to initiate.
Coupled with my Sacral Authority, this strategy helps me make decisions with clarity. When I hear something that feels right, my gut says “Yes.” When it doesn’t, it says “No.” The clarity of this response has been invaluable in both my personal and professional life.
The Power of Understanding Your Unique Design
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned through Human Design is that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to life. We all have our unique designs, and what works for one person may not work for another. You already know this. For instance, I have the 2/6 Profile, which means my life’s first 30 years were meant to be exploratory. This was at odds with the U.S. cultural expectation that by the time you’re in your twenties, you should have it all figured out.
If I had followed that societal pressure, I likely would have continued feeling lost and disconnected. But by aligning with my unique design, I started to feel a sense of ease and flow, although relationships were lost and a bit of chaos due to all the changes ensued. Life no longer felt like a race or a fight—it felt like I was finally on the path I was meant to follow.
Trust Your Unique Path
Your Human Design chart is a map to your life’s purpose. It’s a tool that can help you navigate your decisions, build your career, and deepen your relationships. If you’re feeling stuck or disconnected from your true self, I recommend many techniques, but if you are one to delve into the complexities of you, then I highly recommend exploring your own chart.
Remember, you are unique. Don’t try to fit yourself into a box that doesn’t belong to you. Aligning with your purpose isn’t always easy, but when you do, life becomes a bit more expansive and fulfilling.
